- 1957
BRESSER was founded by Josef Bresser in 1957. The company began by specializing in the import and distribution of quality binoculars. Old documents originating from these old days show that Josef Bresser foresaw fairly precisely the development of the Retail market in Europe.
- 1979
When Mr. Josef Bresser died suddenly, his son, Rolf Bresser, took over the business. In the very same year the company moved to larger premises in Borken. Rolf Bresser saw his main objective in the technical development and design of new and innovative optical products. At that time as well as today BRESSER has become one of the leading suppliers of optical instruments all over Europe and one of the largest in the world. The product portfolio of BRESSER has continuously been expanded.
- 1995
The building in Borken was extended to almost double its former size, which reflected the growth of BRESSER Optic.
- 1999
In order to remain a leader in the optical field, Rolf Bresser sold his business in 1999 to the American market leader MEADE INSTRUMENTS CORP. in Irvine, California. MEADE has established an excellent name in the telescope industry. For the first time high end computerized and Schmidt Cassegrain Optics were marketed very successfully.
- 2005
In 2005 the BRESSER Messier Line of fine telescopes for the intermediate astronomy passionate was successfully launched.
- 2006
Due to the continuous growth of MEADE and BRESSER , the European center moved to new modern premises to the neighbor town Rhede.
- 2007
A new line of own developed BRESSER microscopes was developed and introduced. These quality microscopes are for hobbyists as well as for the professional use. Also new: Exclusively designed wireless BRESSER Weather Stations and Night vision devises from market leader YUKON.
- 2008
The new label BRESSER Junior was launched at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg. BRESSER Junior is meeting the demand for young pupils who are interested in Nature and Astronomy. Furthermore Meade France S.A.R.L., a 100% subsidiary was founded.
- 2009
In January 2009 the proprietor rights at Meade Instruments Europe GmbH & Co. KG changed. The former owner Mr. Rolf Bresser, its longstanding main supplier Jinghua Optical + Electronics Co. Ltd. and Helmut Ebbert as the longtime Managing Director together purchased the European subsidiary. At the same time, a Distribution Agreement with Meade Instruments Corp. was signed. This agreement allows for an exclusive distributorship in terms of the MEADE and CORONADO products throughout most of Europe.
The new proprietor structure allows us to not only position ourselves properly for the current market situation, but also with best outlooks for the future; it will combine Manufacturer and Distributor to a very competitive worldwide operation.
The label EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC with telescopes and eyepieces for the well advanced amateur astronomer was launched.
- 2010
The new state of the art MONTANA binoculars are reaching the top level of optical performance.
In the US the distribution firm Bresser LLC was founded.
- 2011
A new BRESSER sales office in Madrid is opened.
New on the product front: Professional Planetariums from Digitalis und Konica Minolta.
- 2012
With NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC a license agreement was put in place that allows to market optical and outdoor devises worldwide.
