National winner 2011 in the field of geo- and spatial science
Bendikt Gröver of the Lore-Lorentz-Schule in Duesseldorf was able to calculate the dimensions, distance and speed of expansion of the crab nebula (M1) by spectral analysis.
Furthermore he determined the composition of the nebula.
He used an a BRESSER Photon-Newton (PN 203/800) mounted to a MEADE LXD-75 base.
This example clearly shows what can be achieved by so called Amateur-Telescopes and how scientific findings are no longer reserved to professional observatories.
Meade Instruments Europe congratulates Benedikt Gröver to his great achievment in the national competition.
