LX80 AZ/EQ 152mm (6") Schmidt-Cassegrain
You will have unforgettable experiences by viewing Jupiter with its cloud bands, the Saturn and its majestic rings, and many deep sky objects through the proven Schmidt-Cassegrain optic. Open up yourself and your family a unique view to the wonders of the starry night sky.
Classic Schmidt-Cassegrain Optic:
The Meade SC optic with UHTC coating is a successful classic. You will get a compact optical system with maximum transmission at minimal cost, that will give you much pleasure for a long time. By the standard SC connection thread on the optical tube is realized that you can directly use the SC accessories of the LX90/LX200 series.
The Meade SC optics have an enlarged main mirror, which provides a much larger unvignetted illuminated field of view than it would be possible with a normal dimensioned primary mirror. This leads to about 10% better coverage outside the optical axis relative to normal Cassegrain systems. The anti-reflection profile, which is affixed to the inside of the baffle tube, prevent reliable reflections, this considerably improves the image contrast.
Primary and secondary mirror are out of low- expansion borosilicate glass.
The Correcting Plate is out of aspheric high-spectral transmission Borofloat glass from Schott Germany.
The versatile Meade LX80 combines an azimuthal mount with a german equatorial mount.
In azimuthal mode it carries either one or two OTAs, e. g. one for wide field viewing and the other for lunar or planetary observing using long focal lengths. The weight of the two OTAs together can be up to 30kg. Used as a german equatorial mount, the LX80 takes loads up to 18kg.
The precisely machined worm gears in both axes facilitate a smooth and precise tracking. The PEC capability (periodic error correction) in equatorial mode makes the LX80 well suitable for visual observing and astrophotography.
AudioStar computer control
The new Meade AudioStar handbox finds and positions more than 30.000 celestial objects. With the digital audio technology of the Astronomer inside a group of stargazers can easily listen and learn about 500 selected objects in the night sky. The database includes additional information about the moon, planets, nebulae, star clusters and much more.
The GoTo function can be used in altazimuthal as well as in equatorial mode.
The height of the rigid steel field tripod can be adjusted from 770mm to 1190mm. The new fine adjustment function on the leg tops gives additional 5mm range to level the tripod easy and comfortable.
